I believe that Matthew 24-25 have to be in harmony with the book of Revelation when referring to the same event. They are the most recent writings on the subject of last days events. In addition, they also represent complete chapters on the subject matter. In fact, the context of the book of Revelation and Matthew chapters 24 and 25 should be the benchmark that all other verses on the subject have to fit.

All Old Testament prophecies of future events have to fit into the following categories:

1. The Old Testament-Old Covenant.
2. The New Covenant. Starting point Hebrews 9:15-17
3. Seven-year tribulation period.
4. The time period between the end of the Tribulation and the starting of the Millennium.
5. The Millennium. Directed toward four different categories.
A. The Lord God Jesus Christ in the beloved city.
B. The ones of Revelations 20:4. (with spiritual bodies). In addition possibly their resurrected brethren.
C. The Body of Christ, (the Saints) with spiritual bodies. Camp of the Saints. Revelations 20:9
D. The sheep that came out of the Tribulation and their offspring.
6. The time period between the end of the Millennium and the Great White Throne Judgment.
7. The time of the Great White Throne Judgment.
8. The New Heaven and Earth.

My advice is before one dogmatically crams some future prophecy from the Old Testament into one of the categories listed above, make sure it can’t fit somewhere else. Just a simple note to remember is that after Pentecost and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4), it was about a decade before the Gentiles were able to share in that same experience. Prior to that time, almost everything going on within the Body of Christ was Jewish. Note: A resurrected Jew is just as much a Jew after their resurrection as before.

Matthew 24:3-4
As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

Jesus’ disciples asked some questions as a result of what Jesus had told them about the destruction of the Temple.

Why did Jesus not just respond like this?

The temple you see will be destroyed in about 40 years. But that won’t be a great concern because not long from now, I am going to die for the sins of the world and be put in a tomb for 3 days. After this I will raise from the dead, then appear to people for 40 days and then I will ascend to heaven. A few days later, the New Covenant will take effect when the Holy Spirit will come to live within all believers. That starts the time period of the Church that will go on for thousands of years. There will be signs of my coming, which will be wars, famines, earthquakes, false prophets and false Christs, but these are just the birth pains. The Gospel will be preached all over the world. Then there will be a rapture of my Church and then a 7 year tribulation period where the Antichrist will appear. There will be many judgments by God during these 7 years. Then I will return and separate the sheep from the goats and the Millennium will begin for one thousand years where Satan will be bound till the very end; and finally, he will be unleashed and come out and make war against Me and I will defeat him and that will be the end. Lastly then there will be a final judgment called the Great White Throne Judgment. This Earth and Heaven you see will pass away and there will be a completely New Heaven and Earth, so always be ready.

The answer I just gave to the disciples’ questions was approximately 257 words; whereas Jesus’ answer was over 1900 words. My question is which would appear to be clearer and more understandable, my 257 words or Jesus over 1900 words in Matthew 24-25?

As a result of Jesus’ answer to the disciples’ question we have great difficulty understanding how and when things are going to occur, which should motivate us all to be ready at any time. Whereas, with my response to the disciples’ question, that would appear to be clearer and more understandable. Hence, it would create complacence, taking away from the urgency of the message. Even with Jesus’ overall all message of being ready at all times, we still have much of the Church far too worldly and self-centered, imbedded in materialism and sleeping.

Few chapters of the Bible have called forth more disagreement among interpreters than Matthew 24 and its parallels in Mark 13 and Luke 21. The history of the interpretation of this chapter is immensely complex. The literary nature of chapters 24-25 and of the parallels in Mark and Luke has occupied much scholarly attention.
(The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, page 488)

I want to make clear to all that read this section; I am in no way saying that this is the way things are going to happen in the future. This is just my attempt to fit things together. Certainly, I am probably wrong in areas. Yet maybe something can be gained through considering these issues from my point of view. No matter what approach one takes on this subject, there are difficult questions that can be asked. The answers are not always easily understood nor without speculation. My attempt is one of trying to eliminate more of the difficult questions than the other approaches do. One thing we can know for sure: this puzzle does fit perfectly together.

Interpreting prophecy is difficult for many reasons and one of them is the fact that there are mysterious events that are prophesied that do not become clearly understood until they happen.

I want to suggest the viewing of the content of the book of Matthew chapters 24-25 and the book of Revelation as not necessarily to be understood in a linear time line. Objectively speaking, it could be at times rather as someone would view a picture.

Linear order would not be the object in such case, yet precision can still exist. Accordingly, there is no requirement to fill in all the gaps, when viewing a portion of a picture. This approach can provide an understanding and fulfill the object intended, encouraging all to be ready. Whereas the constant linear approach can, as history has revealed, produce far more problems and confusion. It also can work against the ultimate goal of being ready.

I am going to start out by working through the groups of verses within Matthew chapters 24 and 25 and then applying, when necessary, parallels seen in the book of Revelation.

Matthew 24:3 Jesus had just come from the Temple and had told His disciples of the future destruction of the temple and that the timing was in the Old Covenant. The questions from the Jewish disciples were pertaining to the Jewish Temple, the signs of Jesus coming and the end of the age. (Demonstrating they had some understanding) How Jesus responded to their questions had to have been hard for them to understand; yet undoubtedly, they would not have missed the overall point of being ready.

Matthew 24:4-8 are pretty much encouraging people to be aware of what’s happening around them and warning them.

Matthew 24:9 is warning the Jews what will happen to them during the Tribulation.

Matthew 24:10-13 is referring back to the same warning spoken of in verses 4-8.

Matthew 24:14 identifies when the end will come, referring to the end of the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and the Body of Christ opening the door to the times of Tribulation.

Matthew 24:15-22 are pretty much continual warnings to the Jewish disciples about their people and what would take place in their land. It refers to the Great Tribulation.

Matthew 24:23-26 appears to refer back to the same points that Jesus was making in Matthew 24:4-8.
There is no indication within the book of Revelation that during the Great Tribulation there are going to be a lot of false Christs and false prophets running around looking to deceive the saints. It rather will be a time that Christianity is very unpopular. There will be a singular false Christ and false prophet. So therefore, it seems more reasonable for these things to occur before the Great Tribulation.

Matthew 24:27 Refers to the coming rapture. 1 Corinthians 15:52,
I Thessalonians 4:17

Matthew 24:28 refers back again to Matthew 24:4-8 and
Matthew 24:10-13 (Warning).

Matthew 24:29-30 is the second coming with the sign of the Son of Man appearing in the sky. (This is a completely different picture than what we see in 1 Corinthians 15:52 and 1 Thessalonians 4:17, Matthew 24:27). Just as the gap of thousands of years, all within one passage Isaiah 9:6, I see a gap of seven years between Matthew 24:27 and 24:29-30.

Sun, moon, stars, and heavens shaken sign will appear in the sky; they will all see Him coming.

This occurs after the Great Tribulation. Contrasted with Luke 17:20 that says “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed.”(Referring to the Rapture)

Luke 17:24
For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day.”
(1 Corinthians 15:52, 1 Thessalonians 4:17)

Luke 17:27-28
They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the Ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28) It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building;

This is not the picture we have at the end of the Great Tribulation.

Matthew 24:21-22
For then there will be a Great Tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall. 22) “And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.

Therefore Matthew 24:27 refers to an event before the Tribulation and Matthew 24:29 refers to an event (as it says) after the Tribulation.

Matthew 24:31
And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

I suggest Matthew 24:31 parallels Revelation 19:13-14

Revelation 19:13-14
He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14) And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

Matthew 24:31 is a different event then that of Matthew 24:27, 1 Corinthians 15:52 and 1 Thessalonians 4:17 and this event in Matthew 24:31 occurs 7 years after the saints have received their spiritual bodies. They are in heaven until they are gathered into the army and head for earth at the second coming Matthew 24:29-30.

(Parable of fig tree)
Matthew 24:32-35 is a warning.
The “generation” that see the birth pains, just prior to the beginning of the Great Tribulation, will not pass away till all these things take place. Or maybe Jesus was looking at the whole picture and considered from the disciples that asked the question to the Great White Throne Judgment that this was a generation.
GENERATION
1. genea NT:1074: see AGE, No. 2. (from Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words,)
1074. genea genea, ghen-eh-ah’ Search for 1074 in KJV from
(a presumed derivative of) 1085; a generation; by implication, an age (the period or the persons):—age, generation, nation, time. See Greek 1085 (genos)

Matthew 24:36 has to be speaking of the Rapture since it would be easy to calculate the coming of the Son of Man to the very day if it was not speaking of the Rapture. The coming of the Son of Man is exactly 7 years from the appearing of the Antichrist and 1,260 days from the appearance of the Abomination of Desolation standing in the holy place. Matthew 24:15

(The days of Noah)
Matthew 24:37-41
It refers back to Matthew 24:4-8 and Matthew 24:10-13.
It does not fit the state of affairs towards the end of the Tribulation, after the Seven Seals, Seven Trumpets, and Seven Bowls, etc.

Matthew 24:21-22
For then there will be a Great Tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall. 22) “And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.

It is not reasonable to think that the remaining people of the earth are going to be partying, eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage like in the days of Noah without understanding something just happened (The Great Tribulation). Most reasonable people would realize that the Flood has come. Now they are wondering, “What’s next?”
Otherwise, God’s wrath would seem to be inefficient.

Verses 37-41 seems to be an illustration of the state of the world and the Church before it is taken away by the Rapture. To attempt to say this (eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage) is just referring to the times prior to the second coming right after the Great Tribulation is undermining the spirit of the parable of the fig tree. I am right at the door, (Matthew 24:33), not seven years later, after the Seven Seals, Seven Trumpets and the Seven Bowls.

Matthew 24:42-44
Again this has to be a reference to before the Rapture, which would be before the Tribulation in as much as the mark of the Beast would be a dead give-away to the actual time of the second coming of Christ.

(The wise slave)
Matthew 24:45-51
This very well could be contrasting the two groups just before the Rapture.
1. The ones that believe that they are saved and really are.
2. And the ones who really believe that they are saved and are not.
The Bible speaks often of these two groups.

Galatians 4:28-30
“And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29) But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also. 30) But what does the Scripture say? Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.”

(Parable of Ten Virgins)
Matthew 25:1-13
I would like to suggest the possibility that Matthew 25:1-13, the Parable of Ten Virgins... could be a reference to those Jews that accept their Messiah, contrasted with those that reject their Messiah. Another possibility is that Matthew 25:1-13 is in parallel to the warnings to the seven churches of Revelation in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. That same warning is often given to the on-going Church, which could possibly apply.

Two groups of people are seen in Galatians 4:21-31.

Those under Grace Those under Works

Free woman = vs. 22 Bond woman = vs. 22

Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22) Many will say to Me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?” 23) And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; Depart From Me, You Who Practice Lawlessness.”

(Parable of the Talents)
Matthew 25:14-30
I would like to suggest the possibility that Matthew 25:14-30, which is the parable of the Talents, is a reference to those Jews that accept their Messiah, contrasted with those that reject their Messiah.

Or it could refer to those during the Tribulation that are on a different system than the Body of Christ is on. It most certainly cannot refer to the Church since works are not the vehicle of eternal redemption, Ephesians 2:8-9, and we are secure by His Blood and sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise who is given as a pledge of our inheritance.
Ephesians 1:13-14
John 10:27-30
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28) and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29) My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30) I and the Father are one.

Matthew 25:31
But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.

Same as…

Revelation 19:13-14
He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14) And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

Matthew 25:31,
I believe this passage in Matthew 25:31 is key to our understanding.

Honestly, I believe with the starting of the Rapture things appear to be put in reverse. Creation started with God and the angels and then there was a split because some angels rebelled. Then God created man, but man rebelled and sin entered the world. Sin continued; then God flooded the earth. Sin continued and God spread mankind throughout the world. This event is where I believe the differing races and languages came into existence. Then the promise was made to Abraham and 430 years later, the Law was given. Christ came as the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham. Jesus Christ came, died and arose from the dead. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit then became available and the Church was born. The Rapture of the Church then occurs. The Tribulation begins and O.T. prophecies are being fulfilled. During this time, Jews and their system of law is coupled with the acceptance of their Messiah: The Lord Jesus Christ. Then The Son of Man returns (Matthew 25:31). Judgment comes. Then a garden-like existence begins, ending with God dealing with the fallen angels once again.

(Keep in mind that Jesus said that it was finished. But what was finished?)
John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit.

It was “finished” when Jesus paid the price for the sins of the world and provided a way of redemption for all. Yet Jesus was not finished with the Christ-rejecting Jews, as will be demonstrated by the Tribulation times. Prophesy still had to be fulfilled. He also was not finished with Satan and the demons, which is demonstrated by the conclusion of the Millennium.

It should be noted that the time of the Tribulation is a different period of time then the New Covenant (the period of the Church) that we are in. This is because of the finished work of Jesus Christ.

As a result of Jesus, all sins can be forgiven except the rejection of the One that forgives all sins.

Once one correctly believes in Jesus, he is forgiven for all his sins. Consequently, that person is sanctified, indwelt with the Holy Spirit and Jesus becomes his advocate for all his sins. 1 John 2:1

But during the time of Tribulations, if one along with his family worships the beast and takes the mark of the beast, it is impossible for any of them to be saved. Believing in Jesus becomes of no value. Salvation is not an option. That is quite different than the time we live in where all sins can be forgiven.

So then when we see the gathering of all nations in Matthew 25:32-33
I believe that this is just confirming the reverse direction that started with the Rapture. The Millennium has no place for goats and neither did the garden, just as heaven has no place for sinners either.

Matthew 25:32-33
All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33) and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

Matthew 25:34-45, we see the process of determining who is a sheep and who is a goat by a system of works. There is nothing mentioned about the Law or being a Jew, nothing mentioned about trusting Jesus or being born again. I am suggesting a reverting to a similar system that was in effect prior to Abraham to determine right standing with God.

Also note: There are three groups represented in Matthew 25:34-45.
Two of which are the sheep and goats and both seem to lack the understanding of why they are being picked or not picked.
The third group is not present they are the ones that were hungry, thirsty, strangers, naked, sick, in prison.

The question needs to be asked, who is this third group and where are they? Are they the ones that did not receive the mark of the Beast? What is the distinction between them and the sheep? Did the sheep reject the mark of the Beast?

If so, how can one group help the other group, taking into consideration the circumstances of the times of the Great Tribulation in regards to those that reject the mark of the Beast?

Matthew 25:34-45
Then the King will say to those on His right, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35)For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36) naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.” 37) Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You drink? 38) And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39) And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?”40) And the King will answer and say to them, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.” 41) Then He will also say to those on His left, “Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42) for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43) I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.” 44) Then they themselves also will answer, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?” 45) Then He will answer them, saying, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’”

Matthew 25:34
Then the King will say to those on His right, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (The Sheep)

Matthew 24:22
And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short. {Elect-Sheep}

The Goats go to eternal punishment.
The Sheep go into eternal life and the Millennium.

Matthew 25:46
And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Now in the Book of Revelation

Revelation 1-3,
Chapters 1-3 deal with the Church prior to the Great Tribulation. We again have a picture of double or so applications. In other words, it certainly applies to the first century’s seven Churches, but also has applications within any time period of the Church.

Rapture
Revelation 3:10
Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Note: the testing is not local, but worldwide, just like that of the Great Tribulation starting just 12 verses later. Also keep in mind whom He is talking to -- those that have kept His word, which could have application right up to us or beyond.

In addition, Holy Spirit indwelled, born-again Christians being martyred during the Tribulation seems out of sync with keeping born-again Christians from that hour of testing coming upon the whole world.

Dr. Duane Dunham, Professor NT Greek and Exegesis, Western
Conservative Baptist Seminary, 29 years.:

If an attorney told you he would keep you from jail, that means you would not go to jail. If you told your kid you would keep him from going to the game, that would mean he would not go to the game. If a professor told a student he would keep him from graduation, it would mean the student was not going to graduate.

__________________________________________

And of course keeping us from that hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole world is consistent with 1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ...

Not... The Seven Seals, The Seven Trumpets And The Seven Bowls

We see a double application in Revelation 2:22.

Revelation 2:22
Behold, I will cast her upon a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds.

It should be obvious to all that the first century Church was made up of two groups of believers (true believers and false believers). In this case Jezebel and her followers represent false believers and they were warned that unless they repent (get saved), they will go into the Great Tribulation. In other words, the Jezebel has always been with us with her followers. Her followers will go into the Great Tribulation, but the true believers will be raptured out. Thus, they are kept from that hour of testing. (Revelation 3:10)

Matthew 24:27
For just as the lightning comes from the east, and flashes even to the west, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be.

1 Corinthians 15:52
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. 17) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Revelation 3:10
Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell upon the earth.

Get the picture? We jump from what we know is being addressed practically to the seven churches in the first century (Revelation chapters 1-3), to thousands of years into the future all faster than a speeding bullet. This is because Revelation chapter 4 puts us right into the pre-times of the Great Tribulation. Since the author has set the precedent, it is not a gigantic stretch to apply Revelation 3:10 to the Rapture, just 12 verses from the Great Tribulation information, which would precede these events.

(In heaven vision) Revelation 4
Revelation 4:1
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “ Come up here, and I will show you what
must take place after these things.”

In Revelation 4:1, twice the emphasis is on “after these things.” What things? Again it is not a huge stretch at this point to suggest that this refers to a time after the period of the Church!

Revelation 1:19
Write therefore the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall take place after these things.

1 Thessalonians 1:10
And to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.

Yes, we are to wait and be ready, looking to be rescued from the wrath to come.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

It is interesting to note the name “The Son of Man” is used 83 times in the Gospels and only two other times in Acts 7:56 (a Heavenly vision) and Hebrews 2:6 (quoting Palms 8:4). But in both cases of the Rapture, 1 Thessalonians 4 and 1 Corinthians 15, He is referred to as the Lord. Yet in Matthew 25:31 referring to the second coming, He is referred to as the Son of Man. His body, the Church, truly is unique to all others.

John 17:21
That they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Also take note:

2 Thessalonians 2:6-8
And you know what restrains Him now, so that in His time He will be revealed. 7) For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8) Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

Keep in mind there is no appearance here:

1 Corinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

It seems 2 Thessalonians 2: 6-7 is referring to the Holy Spirit, the Restrainer, who will do so until He is taken away. The Holy Spirit will be taken away with the ones He indwells. One of the greatest events in human history was the fulfillment of Acts 1:5, which is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. That event with all it entails had never occurred before and is exclusive to the Body of Christ. When the Rapture occurs, the Holy Spirit and the ones He indwells will be taken away and a new deal will be enacted similar to what was in effect prior to the Acts 1:5. In other words the Holy Spirit will be working with Believers during the times of the Tribulation in a different way than within the New Covenant.

Keep in mind that while Jesus was on earth, He had many Jewish followers that believed in Him, but none of them were born again as we are.

John 10:27-30
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28) and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. 29) My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30) I and the Father are one.

Psalm 94:14
For the LORD will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance.

1 Corinthians 15:42-49

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43) it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44) it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45) So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.” 46) However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 47) The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48) As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. 49) And just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

2 Thessalonians 2:8 is speaking of the time after the Great Tribulation that concludes with the coming of the Son of Man that will slay the lawless one with the breath of His mouth. His appearing will be seen by all, unlike the Rapture where no one will see Him, simply because it all takes place in the twinkling of an eye.

2 Thessalonians 2:3
Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

There are three times the word apostasy is used in the Bible, only one of which is in the New Testament, 2 Thessalonians 2:3. It is written in Greek. So the question is, what did the Apostle Paul have in mind when he used the Greek word “apostasy?” 1. A falling away of the Body of Christ before the Tribulation starts. 2. A separation of the Body of Christ from the earth before the Tribulation coinciding with 1 Thessalonians 4:17 and 1 Corinthians 15:52.

What bridegroom would subject his bride to being beaten up just before their wedding?

Joel 1:15
Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

THE SEVEN SEALS-THE SEVEN TRUMPETS-THE SEVEN BOWLS

The raptured Saints receive white garments. Apparently, no one else in the Scriptures is referred to as wearing white other than Jesus and the angels.

Revelation 3:4-5
But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white; for they are worthy. 5) He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments;

Revelation 3:18
I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich, and white garments, that you may clothe yourself,

Revelation 3:4-5 and Revelation 3:18 speak to members of the Body of Christ about the future where they are clothed in white garments. There is no Biblical reference to any humans other than Christ and the members of his Body, (the Church) being clothed in white garments. No Old Testament believers are said to be clothed in white garments.
Therefore references to people clothed in white are to be assumed as referring to people saved within the New Covenant.

Note: Revelation 4.4, Revelation 6:9-11, Revelation 7:9-10, Revelation 7:13-14, Revelation 19:14 speak of multitudes in heaven during the Tribulation that already have their white robes. They even are able to speak and wear robes, which seems to indicate that they have bodies and are not just spirits. They cannot be angels, since they are ones that have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of Jesus.

Consider if the rapture had not occurred, it would still be the period of the Church. The principles of Scripture that are laid down within the New Covenant would still be in effect.

2 Corinthians 5:8
we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

Within the New Covenant, when someone dies, their spirit goes to be with the Lord, but they have no body until the Rapture. It is only after the rapture that members of the Body of Christ receive spiritual bodies.

1 Corinthians 15:44
It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

Many want to say Revelation 7:14 is referring to martyrs, people that have died during the Tribulation. When in fact, Revelation 7:14 is referring to raptured Saints, many of which were martyrs prior to the Tribulation.

The proof is in the fact that if the Rapture had not occurred, they could not be wearing white robes. And since they would have been bound by the same Scriptural truths as the rest of the Body of Christ, (1 Corinthians 15:44), the martyrs would not have bodies to put the robes on.

Revelation 7:14
And I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the Great Tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Revelation 17:14
These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.

Note: this is before the second coming. So who are these with the Lord, which He calls “the chosen and faithful” that have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb? How did they get there? Obviously they can’t be angels, as they are referred to as “chosen and faithful.” So they have to be raptured members of the Body of Christ.

1 Peter 2:9
But you are a Chosen Race, a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation, a People for God’s Own Possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light...

Revelation 4:4
And around the throne [were] twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones [I saw] twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8) in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Revelation 6:9-11
And when He broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the Word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10) and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, wilt Thou refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11) And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until [the number of] their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, should be completed also.

Who are these people? I suggest to you that they are martyrs. To be more precise, they are members of the Body of Christ that died for their faith before the Tribulation started.
Note: The people that die during the Tribulation it seems will go to the same place that people went to before the period of the Church began.

They were raptured out in 1 Corinthians 15:52, 1 Thessalonians 4:17. Their fellow servants are the believers in the Jewish Messiah that will be killed for their faith during the Tribulation for their faith in Jesus.

Revelation 7:9-10
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation and [all] tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches [were] in their hands; 10) and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

Who are the multitudes and how did they get there?
I suggest that since the Rapture occurs before the Tribulation starts, these are members of the Body of Christ that have been raptured, that have their spiritual bodies and are wearing their white robes.

Revelation 7:13-14
And one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and from where have they come?”14) And I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the Great Tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

I would like to suggest that these multitudes are not ones that were in the times of the Great Tribulation but those that came out of those times through the Rapture.

Dr. Duane Dunham, Professor NT Greek and Exegesis, Western

The Greek word used here for “out” can mean removed from, or kept from, came away from.

__________________________________________

Keep in mind that immediately after the Rapture, the Tribulation starts. So then in 1 Corinthians 15:52 which says, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,” with the first twinkling, the Rapture and by the time of the second twinkling, you’re in the period of the Tribulation. So under the circumstances, it is not hard to conclude, no matter how you look at the word “out,” that the Body of Christ (Revelation 7:14) will be removed out and away from the times of the Great Tribulation.

Revelation 19:14
And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white [and] clean, were following Him on white horses.

In Revelations 18:20-19:10, we see a wonderful picture in Heaven of rejoicing, Revelation 18:20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.

Note: this is before the final battle of Armageddon and the coming of the Son of Man. And who is told to rejoice in all of heaven? It is all the Rapture, saints, apostles, and prophets. The word “saints” within Scriptures, for the most part, refers to members of the Body of Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2:5-8
Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6) And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he may be revealed. 7) For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8) And then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

The Rapture occurs, then the Tribulation starts, the Holy Spirit has been removed with all He indwelled, and the saints are in heaven with their spiritual bodies wearing their white robes. Then there seems to be a 180-degree turn back.

It reverts back to the time and system that was in effect when Jesus was on the earth. Similarly, this would resemble the time when His people would believe in Him, but not be indwelt with the Holy Spirit. After the Rapture, the emphasis seems to be on the 144,000 representatives of the 12 tribes of Israel. Most Jewish people rejected their Messiah, but now the 144,000 are encouraging them to accept their Messiah. In the same way and effect, they should have to begin with prior to the crucifixion.

Revelation 7:4
And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel...

Romans 11:25-27
For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery, lest you be wise in your own estimation, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles has come in; 26) and thus all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,“The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.” 27) “And this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”

It seems that when the Son of Man comes to earth (Matthew 24:29-30) there is a delay between the time He arrives and the Battle of Armageddon, before the Millennium starts. After all, they have to assemble the armies.

Revelation 19:13-14
He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14) And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

Revelation 19:19
And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

Keep in mind that the Beast is involved in this war, which makes it clear it occurs before he is seized and thrown into the Lake of Fire, (Revelation 19:20), before the start of the Millennium.

Matthew 25:31
But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.

Matthew 25:32-33
All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33) and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

The ones that go into the Millennium are the sheep not goats.
It appears that the sheep were judged based on their deeds and declared righteous. Moreover, it appears that this occurs not by trusting in Jesus, but by their deeds. In saying this, I am aware that there had to be some element of faith involved that produced the deeds. (Hebrews 11) I am suggesting the possibility of a reverting to a similar system that was in effect prior to Abraham to determine right standing with God.
We do know many having Christian backgrounds, but are not born-again will go into the Tribulation times. Some may get saved and even become martyrs. Others may take the mark in order to preserve themselves and their families. It is possible that some will feel remorse for taking the mark and never worship the Beast, but rather cry out in their hearts, “Lord have mercy on me.”

James 2:13
For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

Luke 18:8
However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

I think not, at least faith, as we know it.

This may indicate that the ones left at the second coming are Gentiles. Otherwise no separation would have been necessary of sheep from goats because it would have already been in effect with those with the mark of the Beast and those without. The context seems to imply that it is difficult to determine the difference between a sheep and a goat without divine intervention.

Satan has always hated and tried to kill Jews; the tribulation will be no exception. To think Satan does not do a good job of it, knowing full well who they are, “the ones with out the mark of the Beast,” is folly.

Matthew 25:35-40
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36) naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me. 37) Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You drink? 38) And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39) And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?” 40) And the King will answer and say to them, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”

Could it be that the sheep are referred to as the elect not by fulfilling the requirements of the Old or New Covenant, but as a result of meeting the requirements of a system prior to the Old and New Covenants?

Matthew 24:22
And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.

Understand, at the time of the Rapture, all true born-again believers will be raised. Nonetheless, the following Sunday, many churches will experience no real decline in attendance.

You see there are those that really believe that they are Christians and are and there are those that really believe that they are Christians and are not. The ones that are not will enter the time of Tribulation.

Understand, this whole thing has to play out in some way with real people. So I do not think that it is a great stretch to conclude that some who were not true believers before the Rapture may become saved during the Tribulation and even be martyred.
Others may not be martyred. But both groups would have had a lot of indoctrination in the principles of the Scriptures as a result of their church heritage.

When it comes down to receiving the mark of the Beast, many will rationalize to justify receiving it. It might be easy to justify to avoid not dying, feeding and taking care of their families, or not losing everything that they have worked for, etc. I think God may be more concerned with the inward state of a person rather than the outward expression. It would become obvious where a person was inwardly if he were to worship the Beast.

Exodus 34:14
For you shall not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God

The fact that in Revelation 14:6-7 the angel is preaching a message telling the ones that were ordered to take the mark in Revelation 13:16 to worship God makes my point.

The issue appears to be worship.

Revelation 13:12 vs. Revelation 14:6-7. So as I see it the ones that are doomed are the ones that worship the Beast and receive his mark.

Revelation 13:16-18
And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead, 17) and he provides that no one should be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18) Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

Revelation 14:9-12
Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or upon his hand, 10) he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11) And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” 12) Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

Can you imagine not being able to buy or sell anything for weeks, months or even years? What would things be like for you?

Keep in mind that many people in our day claim to worship the true God and follow Jesus, yet in reality are neither worshiping God nor following Jesus. True worship is not forced as a result of a threat or a result of ritualistic acts.

Ephesians 1:13-14
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the Gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14) who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

Ephesians 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

The believer, during the Tribulation time, is an altogether different kind of believer than the believers within the Body of Christ, those that are indwelt and sealed with the Holy Spirit. (Tribulation believers are sealed outwardly on their foreheads.)

Revelation 7:3
Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads.”

Revelation 7:4
And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel...

Revelation 9:4 They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

In the book of Revelation, there seems to be a parallel between God’s judgments on the Antichrist and the world, and at the same time, the Antichrist’s attacks on God’s people. This appears to be much like the situation between Moses and the Pharaoh.

The coming of the Son of Man has two stages no matter what view you take.
1. 1 Corinthians 15:52 and 1 Thessalonians 4:17, where the Body of Christ is caught up in the air in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. 2. Matthew 24:30, where The Son of Man is seen by all the tribes of the earth, coming down to the earth.

Whether there is a gap between the two stages or not, it cannot take away from the One coming. This could explain why the last trumpet of I Corinthians 15:52 is the same one as Matthew 24:31. From our point of view, a seven year gap is a big deal; but from God’s point of view, possibly a seven-year gap in relationship to eternity is but a flicker. This principle is seen in Revelation 22:20 where Jesus says, “I am coming quickly.”
Yet so far, it’s been 2000 years.

1. One “Christian” view is that they are looking to meet the Lord in the air, the Rapture. 1 Corinthians 15:52, 1 Thessalonians 4:17
2. The other “Christian” view is they are looking for the appearing of the Antichrist to kill them off in the seven year Great Tribulation. This view nullifies the instruction to be ready at any time for the return of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 24:15-16 Therefore when you see the Abomination of Desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),

The Millennium

This is where the Lord Jesus Christ reigns in person. Abraham, Moses, Jacob, Isaiah, Jeremiah along with the Old Covenant prophets and the elect all present there. Peter, Paul, with all the apostles, martyrs, and members of the Body of Christ are also present all being there and accessible to the people of the Millennium.

Finally, Satan and his demons are removed with all forms of evil destroyed and with holiness and the Glory of God apparent to all. People will be living for hundreds of years with the wolf and the lamb dwelling together in peace. With this picture of holiness and peace predominate during the Millennium, it is inconceivable to me that we will still have a desire for wealth, laziness, fornication, immorality, jealousy, dissension, drunkenness, or pride. In addition, we will no longer have a desire for fame, doubts, unforgiveness, silly talk, hypocrisy, abortion, outbursts of anger, filthy language, worldliness, impatience, unkindness, apathy, obscene jokes, overeating, lust of the eyes, lust of the mind, lying, gossip, critical spirit, no self control, hate, getting even, disrespectfulness, unfaithfulness, stealing, worrying, backbiting, wrong attitudes, and idols.

All of the above are the result of a sinful nature. A sin nature without exception, cannot help itself; it has to produce sin just as an apple tree produces apples.

Man can sin without a sinful nature evident by Adam and Eve. The difference is that before the fall, they had a choice to sin or not to sin. Therefore, after the fall, everyone has to sin because a bad root produces bad fruit.

I am not saying that sin will not occur during the Millennium. All I am saying is that it will be the exception not the rule, as a sinful nature requires. Evident even within our time period of the Church with members of the Body of Christ indwelled with the HOLY SPIRIT people are still sinning.

I am not saying a Christian cannot go for a season without sinning, but what I am saying is that old ugly head of sin will always surface in everyone, which is incompatible with the period of the Millennium.

1. Evidence that the sinful nature always produces sin.

Genesis 6:5
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Genesis 8:21
And the LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.”

Mark 7:20-23
That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21) For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22) deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23) All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.

Romans 3:10-12
As it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; 11) There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; 12) All have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one.”

_____________________________________

2. Evidence that during the Millennium the curse will be removed.

Hosea 2:18
In that day I will also make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, the birds of the sky, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, And will make them lie down in safety.

Zechariah 13:2
And it will come about in that day, declares the LORD of hosts, “that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.”

Isaiah 11:9
They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

_____________________________________

During the Millennium, Satan and the demons will be bound. The bow and the sword and even war will be abolished, all the result of a sinful nature.

Even the beasts of the field, birds of the sky and all the creeping things of the ground will lie down in safety. There will be no idols or false prophets. All the Earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord.

1000 year Millennium

Revelation 20:1-4
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. 2) And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3) and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time. 4) Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
___________________________________

I am asking you to consider the possibility that after the removal of the Body of Christ (the Church), the Holy Spirit takes on a different ministry to the believers in the times of the Tribulation. A 180-degree turn is made back to the Jews as in the times when Jesus was on the earth. The time line keeps moving back to the Millennium paralleling the time in the garden and then paralleling the times in heaven before and after the rebellion of Satan. I think the people that enter the 1000 year Millennium are the sheep that are left after the Great Tribulation.

They are referred to as the elect in Matthew 24:22 and the righteous that have eternal life in Matthew 25:46. I see them as I see the ones of the old covenant or before it that were the elect-righteous-and had eternal life. I see them, “the sheep,” much the same way as I see the Germans that were helping the Jews during World War 2.
(Think of the scenario.) There is a knock at the door. You open the door and it’s a German officer. You raise your arm into the air and say, “Heil Hitler!” All the while you’re hiding Jews in the attic.

_____________________________________
They will be supernaturally transformed into a garden like situation and the earth will be changed. The sheep’s offspring end up being deceived like the fallen angels were. They will attempt to destroy God and the saints.

An interesting question can be asked. With the earth filled with the knowledge of God for one thousand years, with the Lord Jesus Christ Himself reigning with the resurrected Saints, how could man be deceived into following the Devil once again? Revelation 20:8

In the garden there was the tree and man could choose to sin. In the Millennium, there is no tree or even a sin nature. How and why then would someone sin? I believe it’s a parallel between the Millennium and how it was to begin with. In heaven with God and the angels, there was no tree or sin nature -- all was good and holy. How then did sin occur?

Revelation 20:7-9
And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, 8) and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore. 9) And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.
_____________________________________

Just as Satan was self absorbed before his fall, many during the Millennium will be also. The appetite for the love of self can never be filled.

That’s why the rich can never be rich enough. The famous can never be famous enough and the powerful are always seeking more power.

Man without a sin nature can know something is dead wrong, just like Adam did, and still choose to sin.
_____________________________________

The Millennium is the final display revealing Satan’s and man’s heart, just before the Great White Throne Judgment.

Man and Satan were created to be dependent upon God just as those living during the Millennium are expected to be. When dependence is exchanged for desires of independence, overt sin is waiting at the door. All living during the Millennium know the truth, yet the glorious relationship with God is exchanged for independence resulting in rebellion.
Note: Many during the Tribulation times worshipped the Beast and take his mark sincerely. Others just play the system for their own survival. During the Millennium, many worship the Lord Jesus Christ sincerely; whereas, others will just play the system.

It’s interesting. Worship is the real issue in both cases.

1. False worship of the Beast results in Hell versus playing the system, which results in being a sheep and being saved.

2. True worship of God results in salvation and the playing of the system results in hell.

The people of Millennium cannot be saved as we are, indwelt with the Holy Spirit, simply because they end up attempting to destroy and kill the Lord Jesus Christ. I do not believe people indwelt with the Holy Spirit could do such a thing. (It’s the Holy Spirit) I look at the people of the Millennium as similar to the angels that fell and also Adam that had no sin nature, that knowingly chose to sin. Note: Not all the angels fell. Therefore some people during the Millennium surely are saved. They are the ones that believe correctly and worship correctly the Lord Jesus Christ. A sin nature would contaminate the Millennium.
____________________________________

So I have to come to the conclusion that the people that populate the earth during the time of the Millennium are:

1. Sheep that are elect and have eternal life that made the transition from the Tribulation times to the Millennium. They are not indwelt with the Holy Spirit nor do they have a sinful nature anymore. The curse has been removed.

2. The offspring of the sheep.
People that are able to choose to follow God as a result of their free will or reject God as a result of their free will. These choices are similar to Satan, Adam and the people during the times of Moses and before.

Exodus 32:25-26
Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control — for Aaron had let them get out of control to be a derision among their enemies — 26) then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered together to him.

One main difference between the garden situation before the fall and the paralleling garden situation during the Millennium is that there is no tree in the Millennium garden until after the Millennium is over. There is nothing to tempt people to use their free will to do anything, but what is right and good until Satan the deceiver is loosed.

Right after the 1000 year Millennium, it does not jump right into the Great White Throne Judgment. There is a time period between the two events required for Satan to deceive the nations and gather the armies in order to make war against the camp of the saints, the beloved city and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Great White Throne Judgment

Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12) And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14) Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15) And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Keep in mind that this Judgment is not so that God can find out anything He did not already know nor will it will change anything that has already been determined. It simply is for the benefit of those in the books to know for certain why they will spend eternity in the lake of fire. This judgment will reveal mankind’s prideful rebellious sinful nature and God’s grace, rightness, and justice.

The New Heaven and a New Earth

Revelation 21:12-14
It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are those of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13) There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. 14) And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The identity of Israel and the Body of Christ as being two separate groups continues into the New Heaven and Earth.
(Revelation 21: 12-14)

Isaiah 66:22 “For just as the new heavens and the new earth which I make will endure before Me,” declares the LORD, “So your offspring and your name will endure.”

Isaiah 66:22 is an Old Testament prophecy being fulfilled in the time of the New Heaven and Earth. I wonder if there are others.

Isaiah 65:17-18
For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. 18) But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing, And her people for gladness.

Revelation 21:22-27
I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23) And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24) The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25) In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed; 26) and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27) and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 22:14-15
Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. 15) Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

Is it possible that the inhabitants of hell are neighbors to those of the city?

Revelation 22:20
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

It appears to me that the number one issue of all creation is the original rebellion of Satan. God has allowed everything to circle back to that point. The principles that will be established will be invaluable for all eternity.

John 19:30

He said, “It is finished !”
And He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit.

Why is there a need for the Millennium except a return to home plate right back to the very issue of God and the Satanic rebellion?

Author’s special note:
If John 5:28-29 were to occur simultaneously with the second coming, not only would it be helpful to identify the ones dwelling in the beloved city during the Millennium in Revelation 20:9, it could also explain how those that pierced Him could see Him at His coming.

John 5:28-29
Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, 29) and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

Revelation 1:7
Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. Even so. Amen.

Bonus notes from Author:

The following are some of my Bible study notes prepared for a home Bible study. I want to attempt, once again, to make myself clear as a bell that I could be wrong on my conclusions.

My views are inserted into this book as a means to provoke thinking. I am also aware that my views on this subject may disagree with Bible commentators and one of the things that helps me justify my freedom to address my positions are that many of the Bible commentators disagree with themselves. So I see little harm in throwing another option onto the table for all to think about and consider.

EZEKIEL’S TEMPLE -- WHAT? WHEN? WHY?

The concluding chapters of the prophetic book of Ezekiel are among the most hotly debated in all of Scripture. Many differing and conflicting interpretations have been proposed by scholars, each according to his own school of eschatological thought.

Are these chapters, which describe a great temple, speaking figuratively or literally? Do they refer to a time now past, or to a future state? The opportunities for controversy are manifold and a mere consideration of the chapters themselves, in isolation, is insufficient to provide all the answers.

Neither the figurative nor the literal approach to these chapters is adequate to explain every detail or unravel every mystery. However, it is not necessary for us to know all the answers in order to understand the passage properly.
Ralph Alexander, (Professor of Hebrew, Western Conservative Baptist Seminary)

The Mystery of Ezekiel chapters 40-48
View #1
This view is that Ezekiel chapters 40-48 do not fit, simply because the realty of these chapters was never intended to fit to begin with.

1. Relation to History of Temple: Wellhausen has said that chapters 40-48 of Ezekiel “are the most important in his book, and have been, not incorrectly, called the key to the Old Testament” (Prolegomena, English translation, 167). He means that Ezekiel’s legislation represents the first draft, or sketch, of a priestly code, and that subsequently, on its basis, men of the priestly school formulated the Priestly Code (P) as we have it. Without accepting this view, dealt with elsewhere, it is to be admitted that Ezekiel’s sketch of a restored temple in chapters 40-43 has important bearings on the history of the Temple, alike in the fact that it presupposes and sheds back light upon the structure and arrangements of the first Temple (Solomon’s), and that in important respects it forecasts the plans of the second (Zerubbabel’s) and of Herod’s temples.

2. Conception Unique and Ideal: While, however, there is this historical relation, it is to be observed that Ezekiel’s temple-sketch is unique, presenting features not found in any of the actually built temples. The temple is, in truth, an ideal construction never intended to be literally realized by returned exiles, or any other body of people. Visionary in origin, the ideas embodied, and not the actual construction, are the main things to the prophet’s mind. It gives Ezekiel’s conception of what a perfectly restored temple and the service of Yahweh would be under conditions which could scarcely be thought of as ever likely literally to arise. A literal construction, one may say, was impossible. The site of the temple is not the old Zion, but “a very high mountain” (40:2), occupying indeed the place of Zion, but entirely altered in elevation, configuration and general character. The temple is part of a scheme of transformed land, partitioned in parallel tracts among the restored 12 tribes (47:13-48:7,23-29), with a large area in the center, likewise stretching across the whole country, hallowed to Yahweh and His service (48:8-22). Supernatural features, as that of the flowing stream from the temple in chapter 47, abound. It is unreasonable to suppose that the prophet looked for such changes-some of them quite obviously symbolical-as actually impending. (F. L. Anderson, International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, pg. 2934-2935)

My response to View #1:

My problem with accepting View #1 is the great amount of space and detail given within the vision. For the vision to have no literal application seems to be a bit of a jump for me. It would be as if God wasted His time with the vision, yet indicated this was His optimal hope that would never come to be. I think not.

Another view is that Ezekiel 40-48 describes literal events that will occur during the time of the Millennium.

Arguments in Support of a Literal Interpretation
By Dr. John C. Whitcomb

1. A careful reading of Ezekiel 40-42 gives one the clear impression of a future literal Temple for Israel because of the immense number of details concerning its dimensions, its parts and its contents (see Erich Sauer, From Eternity To Eternity, chapter 34). Surely, if so much space in the Holy Scriptures is given to a detailed description of this Temple, we are safe in assuming that it will be as literal as the Tabernacle and the Temple of Solomon.

__________________________________________________

My response to View #2:

This view of Ezekiel 40-48 seems to undermine the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. If Ezekiel 40-48 is moved into the Millennium.
(Reading the chapters will help in understanding my point.)

Ephesians 2:15-16
By abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, 16) and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.

Hebrews 7:26-27
For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; 27) who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins, and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

Jesus Christ, the Messiah, was the full and final sacrifice. He will not be offering more sacrifices in the future He is our foundation. The only sacrifices that will be offered in the future are sacrifices made by Jews that have rejected their Messiah and that will only occur until they come to know their Messiah.

Ralph H. Alexander, In either case, the atonement rituals of the Mosaic system and those of the millennial system described in these chapters were picture lessons and reminders of mankind’s sinfulness and their need for a complete cleansing from sin and forgiveness through the efficacious atoning sacrifice of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
(The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Vol 6 p.g. 983)

Note: within Ezekiel chapters 40-48 there is no mention of the Messiah Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for sins. Nor is there any allusion to the fact that any thing had been done for Israel by Jesus Christ.

The whole idea of all this stuff in Ezekiel 40-48, as representing ineffectual pictures that are being used as reminders of how things were in the Old Covenant, seems like folly to me. This would be especially true considering that the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is present during the Millennium with the resurrected saints along with angels.

It seems that, in and of itself that would accomplish all that would be necessary for a reminder and picture-lessons. There would also be as a supplement the recent history of the Tribulation by the testimonies of the sheep. In addition their would be the 144,000 Jews present during the Millennium that were sealed believers during the Tribulation period that could tell their story if necessary as a reminder. So therefore it seems to me just as ridiculous to have within Ezekiel 40-48 sin offerings that are efficacious as it is with the View #1 position of having a vision that is efficacious.

Ralph H. Alexander,
addressing Ezekiel 40-48 These rituals of atonement were commemorative of the finished work of Christ for sin through the sacrifice of Himself. They were not efficacious.
(The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Vol 6 p.g. 983)

Again note: There is no mention of Jesus Christ and His atonement within Ezekiel chapters 40-48. All that is spoken is spoken in the present tense, as if Jesus Christ the one who is efficacious was not even present nor worth alluding to in the vision.

So therefore the question is: where does Ezekiel 40-48 fit?

It seems to me that Ezekiel 40-48
would fit right after Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39.

Ezekiel 38:22-23
“And with pestilence and with blood I shall enter into judgment with him; and I shall rain on him, and on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, a torrential rain, with hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23) “And I shall magnify Myself, sanctify Myself, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the LORD.”’

Ezekiel 39:6
“And I shall send fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the LORD.”

If this event is before the Rapture, then it represents the first of a turning of events from the natural to the supernatural on earth. If the Rapture occurs before this event, then the Rapture would be the first event that would start an incredible series of supernatural events on earth right up till and beyond the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Ezekiel 39:9
“Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will go out, and make fires with the weapons and burn them, both shields and bucklers, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears and for seven years they will make fires of them.”

To place this event at the second coming with the burning of weapons continuing on into the Millennium does not quite fit the picture of the Millennium.
To place this event during the time of the Tribulation without it being mentioned within the book of Revelation is a bit of a stretch for me since it is such a catastrophic event. That’s not to mention the question of how the Jews would have time to burn the weapons during the Tribulation while being on the run for their lives from the Antichrist.

Revelation 13:15-18
And there was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast might even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16) And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead, 17) and he provides that no one should be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.

Therefore I place this event before the time of the Tribulation.

The building of the Temple and the sin offerings come after Magog and just before and during the times of the Tribulation. Therefore, Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 are just before chapter 40-48.

With this understanding, the question could be asked, how do I explain the supernatural things in Ezekiel?

For example:

Ezekiel 47:8
Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the sea, and the waters of the sea become fresh.”

My answer is the same as to how I explain these events:

Revelation 8:8
And the second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood ;

God’s sovereignty has the right to use supernatural events as well as natural events to accomplish His purposes.
Some things to consider:

1. Dr. John C. Whitcomb: Surely, if so much space in the Holy Scriptures is given to a detailed description of this Temple, we are safe in assuming that it will be as literal as the Tabernacle and the Temple of Solomon.

My response: Since such detail is given as instructions for the building of the Temple, it could be asked, why would the designer go into such detail 2700+ years before the building of the Temple? Particularly, considering the fact that the designer, contractor, and co-builder God is not only personally present at the time of the building of the Temple but is taking an active roll in its construction.
(Assuming it is built within the Millennium.)

2. If the building of the Temple takes place at the start of the Millennium, it would appear there would be a bit of a Jewish manpower problem as a result of the Tribulation. Therefore, perhaps God plans to supernaturally help with the construction of the Temple, which would open the door to ask the question, if that’s the case, why all the detail in Ezekiel?

Matthew 24:22
“And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.

3. What is there about the Temple in Ezekiel that if built during the Millennium, could not just as well be built after Gog and Magog prior to the Tribulation?

The Gog and Magog situation would be the most catastrophic event that has ever happened on earth up to that point other than the Flood. To think that as a result of God’s supernatural intervention, that great changes were not to occur to the landscape is far more of a leap than I am willing to take. Therefore a resurfacing of things could take place to provide the space necessary for the Temple and the Israeli people that are called home from around the world. I find one of the biggest problems to my ideas is the condensed view of time till the end that we all choose to believe in.

Ezekiel 38:19-20
“And in My zeal and in My blazing wrath I declare that on that day there will surely be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20) “And the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all the creeping things that creep on the earth, and all the men who are on the face of the earth will shake at My presence; the mountains also will be thrown down, the steep pathways will collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground. (This event opens the door for a resurfacing of Israel.)

4. It could be asked if Magog were to occur during the time of Tribulation, why would God take such incredible action to protect Israel? only to have within a very short time from that protective action Israel being martyred and nearly annihilated?
Time, it would seem, has to be factored into these events.

5. We have the vision of the Temple in Ezekiel 40-48 which is a future prophecies of a Temple to come. The only other future prophecies of a Temple to come is not found in the Millennium, but in the times of the Tribulation. Speaking of God’s Temple. (Indicating indistinguishable.)

2 Thessalonians 2:4
Who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

Matthew 24:15
“Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),

J. Dwight Pentecost
The abomination of desolation (Matt 24:15) is clearly stated by Daniel (9:27) to appear in the middle of the week and continue to the end of the period.
(Thing to come pg. 279)

Ezekiel 45:16
“All the people of the land shall give to this offering for the prince in Israel.

Daniel 9:26
“Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

Robert L. Thomas This individual “opposes and exalts himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped.” His direct and determined opposition to the true God will be a leading feature of the continuing apostasy. It will be especially marked by removal of the symbolic articles from the Jerusalem temple. The man of lawlessness will occupy the holy precincts in order to accept and even demand worship that is due God alone. This evidently is a Jewish temple to be rebuilt in Jerusalem in the future. Dependence of these words on Daniel 9:26, 27; 11:31, 36, 37; 12:11 (cf. Matt 24:15; Mark 13:14) demands such a reference. There is no impressive evidence for understanding naon (“temple”) in a nonliteral sense. (The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Vol 11 p.g. 322)

So we have prophecies pointing to a coming Temple of God...
not two different Temples of God on earth.

6. It should be pointed out that the whole idea of a Temple in the Millennium being build with the division of land for the 12 tribes of
Israel, would occur at the beginning of the Millennium. This would all occur under the direction of Jesus Christ. So where did the aliens that had been living there come from? Ezekiel 47:22-23

7. If one believes that Ezekiel 40-48 is a future prophecy applying to the Millennium, it would appear that Paul really missed the boat. Because circumcision appears to be a discriminating issue in the Millennium.

Ezekiel 44:9
’Thus says the Lord GOD, “No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, of all the foreigners who are among the sons of Israel, shall enter My sanctuary.

Galatians 5:6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

Galatians 6:15-16
For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16) And those who will walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.

Colossians 3:11
A renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.
__________________________________________________

It appears to me, as a result of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, that things change big time.

1. God’s power is known throughout the whole world.

Ezekiel 39:21
“And I shall set My glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them.

2. Israel will return to the land and their God.

Ezekiel 39:28
“Then they will know that I am the LORD their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer.”

3. I believe that the Ezekiel Temple is built in Ezekiel 40 following the gathering of Ezekiel 39:28.
__________________________________________________

Now for the bad news.

Within my model after Gog and Megog, Israel returns to activism for God. But within time, that activism for God deteriorates to the point that somehow the Antichrist gets his foot in the door.

2 Thessalonians 2:4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

During this same time Israel comes to know their Messiah.

Revelation 14:4-5
These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb. 5) And no lie was found in their mouth; they are blameless.

I believe the 144,000 come as a result of the rededication to God as a result of Gog and Magog and the gathering of Israel back from the nations. Is anyone naive enough to think that we have in our day 144,000 Jews that have never told a lie, nor fornicated, nor committed adultery with a women, and are blameless?

So the outcome to my model is that even though some Jews are deceived and let the Antichrist get his foot in the door, others don’t. They come to know their Messiah resulting in them becoming evangelists of Israel and the world and then die standing for their Messiah the Lord Jesus Christ and standing against the Antichrist .
__________________________________________________

Whereas, the other model has as the main purpose, the restoration of Israel during the Millennium, in the presence of the Messiah and resurrected Saints with the reenactment of all the sin sacrifices as reminders and pictures. This would then show what has been done for Israel only to have Israel turn on their Messiah and attempt to kill Him and the resurrected Saints.

Revelation 20:7-9
And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, 8) and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.

Many attempt to weasel out of this issue by saying it’s not Israel nor their offspring that tries to kill God, but the Gentile nations as if the Jewish people are exempt from Satan’s deceptions. This is foolishness taking into consideration who goes into the Millennium and the emphasis of Ezekiel 40-48 if it were to apply to the Millennium.

Note: There are two Gog and Magog’s one in Ezekiel 39 and one in Revelation 20. They are not the same event. One is just before the building of the Temple, and the other is just before the Great White Throne Judgment.

It appears to me as a result of the battle of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 39, God calls His people back to Israel. There is a great turning back to God. With their new dedication, the Ezekiel Temple is built. Then comes a falling away by some, while others come to know Jesus Christ as their Messiah. A zeal for evangelism occurs with a persecution of believers. Then the second coming of Christ occurs followed by the Millennium.

I am not suggesting that there are not parallels within the Scriptures because there certainly are. All I am saying is that the centermost foundation of the Millennium is not centered around animal sacrifices and the Old Covenant system of the Laws and statutes.

The Millennium will be centered around the one sacrifice that was made by Jesus Christ for all times.

Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

1 Corinthians 3:11
For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

This is the very opposite of the foundation being laid within the Millennium if Ezekiel 40-48 is applied to the Millennium.
