Depravity
2 Cor 5:14 14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died;
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
Depravity is a non-Biblical word like Deity or Trinity, which are words like Depravity that represents important Biblical Truths.
The definition of depravity to me, "simply is" : All People need a Savior.
In other words if you weren't depraved you wouldn't need a Savior.
Depravity is how God naturally sees Man,
not how Man necessarily sees Man.
Depravity represented in the simplest terms, is how God looks upon Man from conception, which is Negatively, apart from Christ's Redemption, and is Absolutely Not Positively or Neutral.
If there was not an extremely serious problem with mankind God would not have offered himself as a living sacrifice for mankind.
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
Some disagree with the doctrine of Man's depravity and attempt to use verses like,
John 9:1-3
1 And as He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man
or his parents, that he should be born blind?"
3 Jesus answered, "{It was} neither {that} this man sinned, nor his parents; but {it was} in order that the works of God might be displayed in him.
The presupposition is that mankind sins, and Adamic sin is passed on.
Jesus explains that in this case the person was made blind from birth For a particular purpose that the works of God might be displayed in him.
It does not set a precedent for all other cases, of blindness, sickness, And even death, that we know are tied to the sin of Adam.
[The Four Fold Gospel] (TFG 462) John 9:3
Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. Jesus found a third alternative to their dilemma. The man's parents were sinners, but neither their sin nor the beggar's own sin had caused this calamity. It had come upon him as part of God's plan for his life; it was part of the providential arrangement by which God governs the world.
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
Another out of context application is use to refute the doctrine of Man's depravity.
Ezek 18:20
20 "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son's iniquity;
In context this verse is explaining that the sins of the Father, and then it even list them, should not be held against the Son. Or visa a versa.
For example:. if your father was a rapist or murder and was thrown into Jail, the son should not also be thrown in Jail, because of what the father did. Or visa a versa.
In context these examples are talking about earthly situations where the presupposition is that both father and son are subject to sin.
Gods decree is,
Exodus 20:5 {Part of the Ten Commandments}
"You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Attempting to twist Ezek 18,
to undermine original sin cannot be done.
There are many verses that teach the effect of original sin.
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
For example:
As a result of Eve's sin all woman in the future will suffer.
Gen 3:16
16 To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, in pain you shall bring forth children; yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."
As a result Adams sin, all men in the future will suffer and men and women alike will all experience physical death.
Gen 3:17-19
17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life.
18 "Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field;
19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, because from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
It is extremely important to understand
what the Bible means when it use's the word Death.
1. "for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." {This obviously is referring to physical death.}
2. Gen 2:16-17
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;
17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die."
Note:. Man did eat, and did not physically die that day. Man did eat and Spiritually died that day.
The result of being Spiritually dead, is man will now produce sin, from his very nature that has changed as a result of becoming spirtural dead.
Some good examples,
of this state are spoken of by Paul, referring to himself.
Rom 7:18
18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the wishing is present in me, but the doing of the good {is} not.
Rom 7:21
21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wishes to do good.
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
Gen 4:3-8
Offerings came as a result of Adam and Eve's Spiritual Death.
They were being made even before any known outward sin.
As a result of Adam and Eve's Sin the World Changed.
Anger was now possible as a result of the nature of Mankind.
Sin is within, at the very door of the soul, looking to be let loose.
God advises, that it should be mastered and Cain should not let the sin that indwells him be manifested.. But in this case, Gods counsel was not taken.
Gen 4:3-8
3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground.
4 And Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering;
5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?
7 "If you do well, will not {your countenance} be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."
8 And Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
{ENT-Eclectic Notes} Genesis 4:7
It was not a question of guilt from sins, but of man's state, so here it is a sin-offering "if thou doest not well." The two things are quite distinct, one is the abstract consideration of man's estate before God; the other, getting an individually purged conscience before God.
It is objected that till the law there was no khet' (sin). In general, I apprehend this is just, and the difference important; as in Abel's sacrifice it was the state of man--"Where art thou?" --not what he had done. The burnt offering took this ground; it was not for particular faults which a man had committed, but that man, driven out of Paradise, alienated in sin from God, could not come to God as if nothing had happened; sin, and death for sin, and the glorifying of God as to it, must come in, in order to approach acceptably; and this was the general character of sacrifice till the law made imputable transgressions.
BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE
As a result of Eve's sin all women suffer and are subordinate. 1 Tim 2:11-15
11 Let a woman quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
13 For it was Adam who was first created, {and} then Eve.
14 And {it was} not Adam {who} was deceived, but the woman being quite deceived, fell into transgression.
15 But {women} shall be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
So we clearly see as a result of the Sin of Adam and Eve the seed of their sin is sown in the hearts of mankind and it has devastated this world and affected Mankind's position before God.
There are many other Bible Verse's that teach this Truth,
For example:
Ps 51:5
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.
Ps 58:3
The wicked are estranged from the womb; these who speak lies go astray from birth.
Gal 2:15
15 "We {are} Jews by nature, and not sinners from among the Gentiles;
Eph 2:3
3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
1 Cor 15:42-44
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable {body} it is raised an imperishable {body}
43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual {body.}
The verses above, teach there is a serious problem tied to the very existence of Man. They speak of the negative state of man from the beginning.

{Definitions of Doctrine C.D.COLE} Chapter 3
And the Bible often employs the word flesh to denote the corrupt nature of man. "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not" (#Ro 7:18);
When Paul describes men under a variety of wicked characters, the first link in the chain is: "lovers of their own selves" (#2Ti 3:2). This exclusive love of self is the fountain of depravity from which all- evil thoughts and actions flow; it is the womb from which all sinful expedients are born; it is the incubator in which all evil inventions are hatched.
Depravity is total, reaching to all the facilities of the soul; it is universal; taking in all men by nature; and it is inherent, by which we mean that it is the result of original sin, transmitted by natural generation or physical birth.
John 3:6
"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Gal 5:19-21
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
It is important to understand, being born of the Flesh always produces Fleshly deeds. Jesus was born of a virgin, otherwise He would have been Born In the Flesh and would have sinned (My opinion). A bad root produces bad fruit. Males pass on the seed of a sinful nature, not females. (My opinion)

Either an exception situation, or they are going some place other than Heaven, or the child is clean because of believing parents. Of course the question could be asked Was David ever wrong on any thing? Was he speaking for himself, or God?
Regardless, this text does not set a precedent for all other children.

4 "Who can make the clean out of the unclean? No one!
{GILL John Gill's Expositor} Job 14:4
Ver. 4. Who can bring a clean [thing] out of an clean? &c.] Either produce a clean person from an unclean one: it is not to be expected that one, perfectly free from sin, should be generated by, or brought out of, one that is defiled with it; which is the case of all men; the first man, though made upright, sinned, and by sinning defiled himself, and all human nature in him: and so those that immediately descended from him were polluted likewise, and so on in all generations, every man being conceived and shaped in iniquity; so that it is not possible that man that is born of a woman, sinful and unclean, should be clean himself, or be free from sin; by which it is manifest, that the sinfulness of human nature is unavoidable; it is natural and necessary, and cannot be otherwise, such being the case and circumstances of immediate parents, from whom men descend; and that this is the case of all men that come into the world by ordinary and natural generation; there is none righteous or pure from sin:

Rom 5:12-19
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--
13 for until the Law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.
16 And the gift is not like {that which came} through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment {arose} from one {transgression} resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift {arose} from many transgressions resulting in justification.
17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.
19 For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.

THE EXPOSITOR'S BIBLE COMMENTARY Eph 5:8
8 Here Paul enlarges on the contrast between darkness and light. As in Ephesians 2:1-3 and 3:17-24, he reminds his readers of what they once were. One word suffices by way of summary--"darkness." Not only did they live in darkness: they were darkness (cf. 4:18). But now they' have been rescued from the dominion of darkness and inherit the kingdom of light (Col 1:12, 13). They not only live in the light: they are light. This is possible only in union with Christ who is himself the light.

{ADAM CLARKE'S COMMENTARY} John 8:37
From what is here said, it is manifest, says Dr. Lightfoot, that the whole tendency of our Saviour's discourse is to show the Jews, that they are the seed of that serpent which was to bruise the heel of the Messiah: else what could that mean, Joh 8:44: Ye are of your father the devil, i.e. ye are the seed of the serpent.

Some might suggest,
it's really a case of accountability or responsibility.
In that case the responsibility is squarely on their shoulders. To prove by way of the scriptures, that some people are exempt from Gods Judgment and Wrath.
Jesus said:
John 3:3
Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

And why will one not see the kingdom of God? Simple because He is depraved by Nature and sins as a result.

One might suggest that as a result of the Great White Throne Judgment people represented in the books will be judged by their deeds, therefore if they have never had a bad deed or sinned they are exempt from Gods Judgment. Rev 20:11-15
It needs to be pointed out, that there were Books and another Book which is the Book of life. The real question is how does one get his name in the book of life? Because it says anyone's name found in the Books will be thrown into the Lake of Fire.
So the point is, everyone's names that are in the books, even before, The Great White Throne Judgment, are doomed to be thrown into the Lake of Fire.
So I maintain the Judgment of the people by their deeds, who's names are in the books, is for their benefit, not Gods.
I think they are condemned, as a result of who they are by nature and there deeds are evidences to that fact.
There is a chain link from Adam to every person.
As a result of Adams Sin,
We now have a universe that is running down, We have Wars, Crime, Death, Pollution, Divorce, Sickness, Birth Defects, Greed, Hatred, Famines, Insanity, Earthquakes, Riots, Etc.etc
To suggest anyone or thing is exempt from the result of Adams sin undermines the importance's of redemption.

22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach--
alienated and hostile in mind, {engaged} in evil deeds,
1. Alienated, the state of existence.
2. Hostile in mind, state even before any outward sin.
3. Evil deeds, are the result of, #1. and #2.
Phil 2:9-11
9 Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth,
11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
I maintain this is not done, as a result of forcing people against their will.
But as a result of their realization of the realty of life, that they are condemned. And have been dealt with, Lovingly, Fairly, Truthfully, and Justly.
I think the reason some have problems with mans depravity, is they think to highly of man and not highly enough of God. As if God owes Man something.

Gen 3:19

In conclusion:
It should be pointed out, that the doctrine of mans depravity builds up God. His kindness, mercy, Justice, love, and grace.
