EXODUS 20: 3 - 5 CONTRASTS TO SO-CALLED PICTURES OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

EXODUS 20:3-5
3) You shall have no other gods before me.
4)You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth, beneath or in the water under the earth.
5) You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and forth generation of those who hate Me.

The old covenant is out.
This issue has to do with the nature of God.
Which does not change.

EXODUS 20: 3- 5
Those who Hate God make false images of things in heaven and worship them.

Jesus is in Heaven and people worship Him.

BUT WHEN PEOPLE HAVE IMAGES OF JESUS,

Are they worshipping a true image of Jesus (God) or false?

Is a so-called "Picture of Christ" a true image of God or false?

The answer is, pictures of Jesus are false images of God!

A white-faced blue-eyed long-haired Jesus is an American Dream.

That will turn out to be many people's nightmare!

People do not need a false image of Jesus to hang on to.

1 Corinthians 11:24-25
Is exactly how Jesus wanted us to remember Him.

1 Corinthians 11:24-25
24) and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
25) In the same way He took the cup also, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood;
do this, as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

1 Corinthians 5:16
Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh;
even though we have known Christ, according to the flesh,
yet now we know Him thus no longer.

The Hebrew word "Idols":

Good for nothing, vain or vanity, no value, thing of nought.

The Hebrew word for "Image":

To shape, resemblance, vain image, a representative figure, especially an idol.
Today...false images of Jesus are...

THE SERIOUSNESS
OF FALSE IMAGES AND LIKENESS OF GOD.

Deuteronomy 7:25-26
The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire:
thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them,
nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein:
for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.
26)
Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house,
lest thou be a cursed thing like it:
but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou
shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

Exodus 34:12-14
12) Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:
13) But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:
14) For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Some will say it's OK
to have these false images of Jesus,
because they don't mean anything to people.

What if a Pastor were to start a Church,
with a false image of Jesus
that had more of an Eastern Buddha look to it.
He would be in big trouble with the Christian Churchman.
I think those same Churchman that say the Pictures of Jesus,
don't mean anything, would be the first to call it a cult.

The reason is they worship the false images of Jesus.

Worship

Is to have a reverential attitude and feeling of awe, homage, honor
in thought or act paid to men, angels, or other spiritual beings.
Figuratively toward other entities, ideas, powers or qualities,
but specifically and supremely to deity.

EXODUS 20:5 "You shall not worship them." (False idols and images).

WHAT PEOPLE DO WITH SO-CALLED
LIKENESSES OF JESUS.

Bow down to.....kiss.....put in wallets.....hold as sacred
make Him into jewelry...make Him into holy charms...
place as a form of holy protection...use to make places holy...
create reverent atmospheres...home decoration...

Telling a black child,
his God is the white-faced blue-eyed Jesus
is telling him a lie.
Telling a white child the same, is also a lie.

Matthew 18:6
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble,
it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck,
and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Most so-called false likenesses of Jesus Christ
are the product of the Catholic church
and some very ungodly people.

Example:
The artist who painted the first
common day picture of the Lord's Supper
was a homosexual
who committed suicide - Leonardo DeVinci.

Note: no one knows what Jesus looked like.

God instructed His people to make a likeness of angels for the temple.

Likeness of angels were done under God's direction,
it did not violate the first commandment,
which was binding on Gods people, not God.

This instance in the Bible does not
open the door for people to violate what Gods Holy Nature
rejects for his people to participate in.

As for me I try to keep away from idols in any form.

Many good Christian people wrongly use these false images of God
With good intentions, so this is just a friendly warning.

Burn them!!!
