Jim believes it is better to do something than nothing. He believes the goal of life is to find out what pleases God and then just keep doing it.

One of Jim's most prevailing characteristics is is that he attempts to provoke thinking.

He provides signs, banners, and t-shirts to Christians in the ministry in order to provide tools to present the best image of the Gospel, to testify to the masses of people.

He attempts to encourage and teach so that Christians can be all they can be in Christ. He has done extensive counseling and has been blessed in the process. Jim trains open-air-preachers, so they can be most effective in the proclamation of the gospel.
Jim wants Jesus to be the issue everywhere on earth so that sinful man cannot escape the testimony of Jesus.

History Jim Webber was born Dec 11, 1945 in Portland, Oregon. He has preached in every state in the U.S. and many other countries in the world.

Jim became a Christian in 1967, through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, as a result of Marylyn Henderson, a staff member with Campus Crusade.

Jims church background has always been conservative. He directed the Union Gospel Mission in Portland Oregon for around 3 years. He also pastored Community Bible Church for about 3 years.

Jims ministry started by talking to people and handing out tracks. Then Jim started open air preaching. Jim also involved himself with jail ministry, and he has placed a great value on home Bible studies. Jim has preached on many of the universities within the United States, and he has testified at many major events to millions of people.
Jim's ministry has been supported by: Ruben Newsom, Kevin Farrer, and Peter Grant. Jim&s good friend Lyndel Ford, pastor of Bible Believers Seattle, has been a strong force in Jims life and ministry. Jim has primarily supported his own ministry, rather than appealing to churches for help. He worked many years as a welder and later as a Realtor.

For a number of years, Jim has been writing what he calls sections on various subjects, primarily as a defense of what he believes the Truth to be. Jim has written on many subjects found within the Scriptures. His hope is that if someone finds Truth within His writings, it will be rooted into them, and if someone finds error, it would be rooted out.
Jim classifies himself as a Bible Believer.

BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE BIBLE

Jims advice to all is: KNOW YOUR BIBLE, AND KNOW THE REAL GOD OF THE BIBLE THROUGH THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE SCRIPTURES.
Bible Jim's most well known maxim, which he has published all across the world is:TRUST JESUS
Jim considers it an honor and privilege to represent personally a holy God in a sinful world. He is very appreciative of the freedom of speech we all have in America, and he plans to exercise this freedom to the fullest in the proclamation of the gospel.

JIM SAID:"THIS IS THE ONLY TIME IN ALL ETERNITY, THAT WE WILL BE IN A SINFUL BODY, IN A SINFUL WORLD, WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERSONALLY REPERSENT, THE ONE AND ONLY HOLY GOD.

Letter report:
Written By Jed Smock
Head of, The Campus Ministry, USA
Jed is a well-known Campus Preacher in every State in the United States.

Last Friday, I preached with Bible Jim Webber at Portland State University in Oregon. He wore a sandwich board sign, which said Fear God; on the back, and on the front a tribute to Holy Hubert Lindsey, quoting two of his favorite sayings, God bless your dirty hearts and Youre a miserable bunch. Between these two quotes, he listed warnings against various sins and sinners, such as false religion, hypocrisy, drunkenness, and pot smoking little devils. The one that stirred the most controversy pictured a wide open mouthed woman with the caption, rebellious women.

Jim was at his post when I arrived at 11 AM, a few students were checking out his sign as he stood quietly. We greeted one another and chatted several minutes, and then I encouraged Webber to start preaching, since I had already spent the three previous days on campus.

He said loudly that he was not going to preach to such a disrespectful and disreputable group as college students. He went on and on in that vain, as I occasionally fed him with a few choice comments and questions. Soon he gained the attention of about fifty or so students, who were already sitting on area benches. I wish that I had had my video camera with me, since this was classic Webber, who has to be the master at open-air preaching in various venues. Arguably, Webber has the best sense of humor of any preacher. Soon there were about 20 students crowded around him asking questions and commenting on his sign, when a man approached him, and suddenly pushed Webber off the bench from which he was preaching. Webber fell to the ground and I chased after the fiend and rebuked him sharply and warned him to stay away from Webber. Only one other man, a grounds man on campus, intervened. Webber, although shaken and skinned, immediately arose and lovingly and firmly continued his message as he rebuked the students for tolerating this violence. Of course, as Jim pointed out, had any politically correct speaker been attacked, many students would have come to the rescue and others would have been on their cell phones calling the police.

About fifteen minutes later, the cowardly attacker came back frothing at the mouth, trying to pull Jims sign off of him. Webber exercised only enough force to fend off the brute, as a few students, who evidently by now were feeling guilty, came to Jim's aid and pushed the attacker away. Never, in my thirty years of campus work, have I seen a preacher show such self-restraint. One has to know Webber’s background to fully appreciate why I say this. Personally, under such attacks, I have no choice but to rely solely on the Lord to protect me against violence, because I was a peace and love type person in my youth; but even though Webber is about 60 years of age, he is still a muscular man, who, before his conversion some 35 years ago, was one of Portlands most notorious street toughs. Webber could have easily made mince meat out of this beast, who was no small person and in his early 20’S.

Webber doesnt miss a beat, but only seems to have gained strength despite the tumble and tussle. One can tell that he is also gaining the respect of the students for his self-control. Still no police are to be seen. The attacker is still in the area, but Webber fearlessly and still in good humor continues his message. Some might think that Webber is over doing it with his bitingly satirical style, but I notice that he is careful to weave in the cross and the resurrection as he cuts away at the student& sin.

Finally, here comes the aggressor again. I ready myself to spring into action, lest I can help Jim in anyway. I suspect that this guy is crazy with anger; anything could happen in this third round. Jims life could be in danger. However, I perceive that Webber has no attention of backing off or toning down his message. Surprisingly, the man bows his head and sheepishly reaches out his hand and apologizes to Webber, who firmly grabs his hand and forgives the man. He turns away but Jim calls him back, they are eye ball to eye ball. The crowd is quiet, everyone straining to hear what is said, but Jim speaks in such a low tone for several moments that I could not hear. The young man walks to one of the benches and quietly sits and listens the rest of the afternoon.

Meanwhile, a scheduled rock group with loud amplification starts playing over the noon hour. Under such distractive circumstances, I usually stop preaching until the music concludes, but not Webber; he doesnt miss a beat, but reaches down into his diaphragm to raise his voice. The crowd encloses around Webber and the musicians are being ignored. He has several clashes with rebellious woman. Jim explains to them that they would really like him, if they could just get to know him. A number of the students, that I had been dialoging with previous days, confront Webber. He has been preaching now for about 1 and ½ hours, normally I would be chopping at the bit, wanting to get into the action, but I am merely thinking, I hope he doesnt call upon me. How could I ever follow this act? Finally, the rock band stops, but Webber untiringly continues, despite having preached at a street festival past midnight the night before.

A professor, who claims to be a Christian, criticizes his style and message. Jim stops all, to carry-on about a fifteen minute quiet monologue on the foolishness of preaching, right in this mans face. He seems dumbfounded, unable to say a word in reply. Finally, the professor has to go to class for which he is late. Meanwhile, a small group of students begin to question me. Now, Jim and I each have our own group, but Jim has the larger group.

By 3 PM, my group has died out and Jim has been engaged in an intense conversation with an atheistic anthropology student, who fancies himself as quite an intellect. Webber has shifted into the apologetic mode, and so successfully pulls this mans life foundation out from under him, that he leaves saying that he is going to seek God. Webber is no mere humorist, but is able to argue with Satans best, when it comes to giving a reason for the hope that is in him.

As we walk off campus, I ask, Jim, what did you say to that man who attacked you, then finally apologized? Webber replied, I told him, that, I deeply appreciate your apology. It takes a real man to admit that he is wrong in front of a crowd. There is a lot of chemistry out here, I know that I can be offensive, but you demonstrated humility by publicly acknowledging your wrongdoing. Understand, I am paraphrasing; Webber puts everything much better than I can remember. But no wonder that fellow sat and quietly listened to him the rest of the day. I strongly suspect that he will end up getting converted. I have really not done justice to the dazzling performance that I observed that afternoon. I learned a lot that day by observing Webber. It was an honor to be able to be with him. This is much more that could be told of that afternoon, but we need to move on to the rest of the day.

We go to out to dinner and over to Webbers house for a brief respite as he is preparing for a major outreach in the evening at the riverside street festival. Will, Lance, with his new bride, and Lyndal Ford drive down from Seattle. Peter also joins us. All these men are fruit of Webbers ministry. Lyndal is one of the most gracious of the open-air preachers; he has hosted me several times, when I have preached in Seattle. He may be the glue that holds together the Northwest preachers. They all have their banners and Trust Jesus t-shirts. I rarely carry a banner, even though they are very effective attention getters, and a t-shirt is not my style, nor is the street work. I like the commodious lawns of the college campuses and to preach where everyone is at least sober.

Jeremiah Baldwin, who has been preaching on the East coast, arrives to join us at the festival. Interestingly, Jeremiah, formerly of Christian Bros. Church of Long Beach, California, along with bob BIBLE and Paul Mitchell, inspired Webber back in the 60’s to use the banners and go into the streets with the fear of God message. Later, Jeremiah, encountered some personal difficulties, which took him out of the ministry for several years, but Webber intervened exercising his patient pastoral skills to coax Jeremiah back into the street and campus ministry.

All these brothers raised their colorful and bold banners. I sat down on a park bench to watch. This was their venue, and I wanted to observe and learn. Not much seemed to be happening, so I decide to take a walk through the long mid-way. When I return about 30 minutes later, Webber has a raging crowd from all different walks of life arguing with him. I wonder, how did he get this crowd? When I had left he had just been standing there for 30 minutes. But, now, he is the center of attention of the whole festival, the star of the show. I stand back in the audience, listening to the awed crowds reaction. I hear comments like, This guy is unbelievable. He always has an answer for everything. No one can trip him up. He ought to have his own TV show. He told me that if I sucked on a cigarette, I am liable to start sucking on anything. The police on bicycles are on the outskirts of Jims crowd. Each of the other brothers has a few people around them.

Now, it is dark, I figure these brothers will be ministering past midnight. I go back to my hotel, since I must catch a plane back home early in the morning. It was a day to remember.
P.S. Also Porcupine and his wife joined with the group that night. We chatted amiably for several minutes.
